Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Bar/Bat Mitzvah
As our children progress in their religious education and approach Bar/Bat Mitzvah age, they begin to meet weekly, one-on-one, with Cantor Agar to prepare for the chanting of their Torah and Haftarah portions. One month prior to the date, students meet with Rabbi Glanzberg-Krainin and Rabbi Merow to prepare their Bar/Bat Mitzvah D'var Torah and to review their participation in the Shaharit service.
The Bar/Bat Mitzvah is a week-long celebration that starts with Havdalah on the preceding Shabbat, at which the child reads from the Torah and leads the Havdalah service. The week continues with Torah reading at morning Minyan, davening at Friday evening services, and culminates with leading the Shaharit service and chanting from the Torah and Haftarah on Shabbat morning.
