Montessori Track
"The first duty of an education is to stir up life, but to leave it free to develop."
Maria Montessori
The Montessori track offers a rich, child-centered education firmly grounded in Montessori principles. We welcome every child with the understanding that each is a unique blessing to our community and essential to Tikkun Olam or “repair of our world”. Our philosophy is rooted in a profound respect for each child’s sensibilities and seeks to nurture the entire child – mind, body, and spirit. Through careful observation of each child’s individual needs, abilities and interests, children are individually guided to reach their academic, social, and emotional potential. Our dynamic learning community encourages students to become independent, self-motivated learners who treat themselves, each other, and all people with respect and dignity.
The Montessori Early Childhood Program groups children in mixed-aged classroom “communities” from ages three through five in an intellectually and artistically vibrant environment. In these classes, children are encouraged to investigate, create and explore while being exposed to new ideas and learning to think for themselves. Children learn to trust their own ability and are able to absorb information and master skills as they become actively involved in their own learning process. In these rooms, older children excite younger ones with their intellectual curiosity and younger children model the pride and accomplishment of the older students.
Our Montessori program combines general and Judaic studies in an integrated curriculum. The study of mathematics, language arts, science, and geography blend seamlessly throughout the day with the exploration of Torah, Mitzvot, Hebrew language, modern Jewish culture and Jewish ritual. We enthusiastically embrace children from diverse family backgrounds; we do not require any one practice or level of observance and welcome all to our loving community. Academic study is supplemented with creative opportunities in art, handcrafts, music, dance, theater, storytelling, movement, yoga, and cooking.
Our child-centered program is designed to enable children to achieve each according to their own pace. Every child brings their own gifts and abilities to our school and enriches us with their unique perspective. Our program offers small class sizes and an excellent teacher-to-student ratio that affords the individualized attention students need to grow and achieve.
