Our unique Montessori track, one of the only Jewish Montessori programs in metropolitan Philadelphia, offers a rich, child-centered education firmly grounded in Montessori principles, educating children almost three-year-olds through kindergarten.
Our pedagogy is rooted in a profound respect for each child's sensibilities and seeks to nurture the entire child: mind, body and spirit. Through careful observation and discovery of each child's individual needs, abilities and interests, children are guided to reach their academic, emotional and social potential. Our dynamic learning community encourages students to become independent, disciplined, self-motivated learners who treat themselves, each other, and all people with dignity and respect.
Our Montessori program combines general and Judaic studies in an integrated curriculum. The study of mathematics, language arts, science, history and Geography blend seamlessly throughout the day with Torah studies, Hebrew language, modern Jewish culture and Jewish ritual. Supplementing our academic study, the visual, performing and physical arts offer students creative opportunities to explore their studies through art, music, dance, theater, storytelling, movement, cooking and poetry.
The classroom curriculum allows the children to participate in the care of the environment and of themselves, truly making the classroom their own. Some of these activities include snack preparation, saying brachot (blessings) before eating, learning to say tefilot (prayers) and many other topics depending on the interests of the children. Through the curriculum, Beth Sholom meets the spiritual and developmental needs of children from all backgrounds in an age-appropriate, concrete, child-centered manner.
Parents no longer need to choose between a Jewish preschool and a Montessori one in the Philadelphia area.
