Yahrzheit Rememberances

It is a time honored tradition within Judaism to provide a meaningful memorial for our beloved ones who have passed on. It is most appropriate that a memorial be established within the Synagogue where Sabbath, holiday and daily worship of the Almighty God takes place. The synagogue memorial in site of the Torah, the Holy Ark and Eternal Light represents a reminder of beloved ones for all who enter to worship. The memorial, established by a loving family and friends, is a prayer for God's loving care of the immortal souls of beloved ones.

Eleven Month Plaques

By installing eleven month plaques, the congregation honors the memory of a spouse, a parent or a child. The memorial tablet is placed in the Price Chapel for a traditional period of eleven months. There is no charge for this service. One month after the date of death, Beth Sholom contacts the surviving family by letter to inform them of the eleven month plaque program and the fact that they can make a permanent purchase of the plaque by contacting a member of the Honorial/Memorial Committee. Prior to the expiration of the eleven months after the date of death, a member of the Honorial/Memorial Committee contacts the family to discuss purchase of the plaque.

Service Of The Plaques

Family Members are notified annually in advance of the yahrzeit.

The memorial light at the plaque is lit on Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Pesah and Shavu'ot for Yizkor services, and during the weeks in which the yahrziet falls.

Dedication: All memorial plaques are dedicated every year by the Rabbi, usually on the second day of Shavu'ot as part of the Yizkor service. A special program is printed for this service listings all the plaques being dedicated. Following the service a festive Oneg or Kiddush luncheon, sponsored by the Congregation is provided. Special printed invitations are available in any quantity for used of the family or by the donors of the plaques to invite family and friends.
