Shalom Zachmy

Ritual Director

Shalom Zachmy was born in Yemen and migrated with his family to Israel during "Operation Magic Carpet" in 1949. In Israel, he served in the Defense Force and attended Hebrew University, taking courses in Jewish history and political science. He came to the United States and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Minnesota, majoring in Middle Eastern studies and political science. He graduated from Howard University School of Law. Throughout his undergraduate and law school studies, Shalom taught Jewish children about their heritage. He brings a rich and warm mixture of Sephardic and Israeli traditions to Beth Sholom. His primary responsibilities include tutoring Bar and Bat Mitzvah children, teaching in our Religious School, overseeing the weekly Torah readings and officiating at life cycle events. Shalom is married to Peggy and they have three sons, Adam, Guy, and Shai.
