Bar and Bat Mitzvah Training

Children celebrate becoming Bar or Bat Mitzvah at the age of 13. Our students complete five years of Religious School or Hebrew Day School. In addition, they learn Cantillation (notes and melodies) for Torah and Haftarah (readings from the prophets). Each child spends individualized time studying with our Hazzan and Ritual Director, takes a course in prayer leading, and takes a year long class with our Rabbis.

Our innovative program helps B’nai Mitzvah to become comfortable with the service and integrated into the commuinty. Each student participates in four services during the week of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony. In so doing, the pressure of the "big day" is minimized and the vision of ongoing involvement in the religious life of the community is highlighted.

Individualized arrangements are made for children with special learning needs.
